The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

A whole family is murdered at the beginning of this book. The youngest member, however, a boy still in his crib, escapes and wanders into a graveyard.  The ghosts in the graveyard debate as to whether or not they should raise “a living boy.”

Intrigued? I was. This book actually won the Newbery award in surprising fashion, as it is a popular book. Nobody Owens, “Bod” for short, is a likeable main character as he grows up under the watchful eyes of the ghosts and his guardian Silas, who seems to walk a fine line between living and dead. Trouble brews, however, when the man who killed Bod’s family comes looking to finish what he started.

It’s quite an adventure, a little slow while Bod is growing up, but a page-turner at parts. It’s one of our new books. Check it out – FIC GAI.
