Gym Candy by Carl Deuker
Ever since Mick Johnson was born it has always been football, football, football. His dad is a football legend in his eyes. He was an All- American high school player and college player. He was also drafted into the third round of the NFL. So you could say that he has very high expectations to fulfill.
Mick is also a very exceptional football player. He was always the star and settled for nothing less. Going into high school, Mick and his quarterback Drew are called up to join the varsity for spring practice.
Mick works his butt off in practice and works his way up on the depth chart from sixth to second. He finally manages to start in the very last game against Foothill High and does very well but is stopped short on the most important play.
This encourages Mick to hit the weight room harder then ever before his sophomore season. He gets involved with workout supplements and even hires a personal trainer. He is determined to do what ever it takes to be the best running back his high school has ever seen. This means maybe even using steroids. Read Gym Candy to see if Mick accomplishes his goals and by what means. This book is a very easy read and hard to put down. I recommend this for any sports fan that knows what it is like to play high school sports.
